Stowable Probes

RatOS 2.0 and higher has support for Stowable Probes. Preset includes exists for euclid, klicky and unclicky at the time of writing. To use one of the presets, you need to uncomment it in your printer.cfg. If you use a stowable probe that doesn't have a preset, you can use any one of the presets as a template, just copy the contents into the USER OVERRIDES section in your printer.cfg and modify to fit your probe.

Wiring

Stowable probes are wired the same as regular z probes (5v/inductive) in RatOS. Just follow the RatOS wiring for your board (most importantly the signal pin, which is black on the RatOS diagram, should use the same pin).

Dock position

You may need to change and/or finetune your dock position for reliable pickup and stowing. The procedure is made out of the following 4 points:

  1. Dock preflight
  2. Dock side
  3. Dock
  4. Dock exit

When the probe is deployed the toolhead will travel to the points in the following order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1 - preflight, side, dock, exit, preflight. When stowed it's reversed, so it goes 1, 4, 3, 2, 1 - preflight, dock exit, dock, preflight.

You can change the coordinates of each point by adding/modifying the following variables to the MACRO CONFIGURATION section of your printer.cfg:

The first number inside the [] is the X coordinate, the second is the Y coordinate. The coordinates are absolute positions. You can see the defaults for your particular stowable probe in the included file (eg RatOS/z-probe/euclid.cfg).

A good way to fine tune is to manually move the toolhead to the desired position via the movement controls in mainsail and then use the X and Y coordinates displayed right above the controls.

Testing the coordinates

You can test if your confiugred coordinates work by running the DEPLOY_PROBE and STOW_PROBE macro's in the console.

Safety

RatOS checks the probe state to make sure the physical world matches the software's expectations, if this fails it will throw an error and abort the current macro (or trigger an emergency stop during homing). This is to avoid damaging the probe and/or the toolhead, and prevents you from probing if the probe is stowed.
